In December 2005 when the news first broke that Devon County Council were proposing changes that meant Barnhaven could close, the local community responded very quickly and packed a meeting in the Public Hall to register their opposition to the idea. This was followed up by a second public meeting in Tiverton which was equally well attended. Then, within six weeks, a petition opposing the closure was presented to Parliament by Angela Browning M.P. signed by over twelve hundred local people.

That local support will be crucial to the launch and ongoing success of Barnhaven Community Care. We are no longer fighting to keep Barnhaven open, Barnhaven Community Care  is seen as a viable way of achieving that aim. What is needed are emails from individuals, carers, families, local associations and Parish Councils which will help us to demonstrate the depth and breadth of support that exists for Barnhaven Community Care.
