There have been meetings with senior managers and commissioners from Devon Adult Health and Social Care services and with the Community Council of Devon, who are helping with setting up a community enterprise to run Barnhaven Community Care. (An independent, non-profit, voluntary organization.)
A steering group has been established with the aim of promoting the formation of the community enterprise. The steering group consists of: John Burton—Independent Care Consultant & Washfield Parish Councillor Beth Byles—Stoodleigh Parish Councillor Polly Colthorpe—Mid Devon District Councillor Ann Crawford—Oakford Parish Councillor Simon Fouracres—Local Resident Christine Williams—Manager of Barnhaven
The work of the Steering Group will have to be accomplished swiftly, as Shaw Healthcare are scheduled to take over Barnhaven on 1st February 2009 and have no further plans beyond 1st September 2009.
A Stakeholder Workshop was held on 8th October to discuss the project, look at the needs of the area, share the experience of another local community service provider, tie-in with the strategic direction of Mid Devon District Council and refine the proposal.
After the workshop Councillor Mary Turner commented:
"There has been great concern and interest in the future of Barnhaven from the Town and surrounding Parishes. Everywhere I visit I hear nothing but praise for Barnhaven its Service and Staff. The future seemed dismal but a group of dedicated people are making great efforts to save this facility for Bampton and the rural areas. It is my hope that this endeavour will succeed, they deserve all the support they can get"
We have the support of Mid Devon District Council, the Community Council of Devon and Devon County Council Excerpt from email from David Johnstone Director of Social Services Devon County Council “The ambition is challenging but is exactly the right thing to be aiming for…....we have the opportunity to develop a model of care rooted in the community which is appropriate and sustainable”
We also know that we have the strong support of the local community. Please go to the Contact Us page. |
