Barnhaven Community Care is a plan to provide a whole care service for older people in Bampton and the surrounding area. A whole care service can provide support from the time when someone needs a little help in their own home through to 24 hour residential care. It enables staff to observe when a different level of support is needed so that they can offer additional resources before a manageable situation turns into a crisis.
The first level will involve organizing and coordinating a volunteer network which could provide a low-level, friendly, help service to carry out simple tasks such as shopping, walking the dog, a lift to the dentist or just a bit of company. Neighbourly acts that would enable someone to carry on living in their own home and within reach of an overall care service.
The second level will be to provide a paid homecare service for those people who need regular care visits and housework support. Again enabling people to stay in their own homes and manage their own lives but with regular observation and supervision.
When residential care is required Barnhaven, with adaptations, will provide a number of long-term or respite places but an important new aspect is that the proposal now includes the use of the nearby bungalows as Extra–Care housing, with full support from the staff team at Barnhaven.
In addition Barnhaven would provide day care, with the availability of special equipment such as a bath with a hoist and could also be used as a venue for an information service and as a centre for meetings of social and support groups.
The proposal has been planned to meet the needs of our local area, using resources that already exist in the area. It follows Government policy and it fits in well with local authority provision of care requirements. |
